Women should have a smear every 3 years between the ages of 25 and 49, then every 5 years until they reach 64. After 65 Cervical Smears will be carried out only if you have not been screened since the age of 50 or if you have had recent abnormal tests. These are normally carried out by the practice nurses in their clinics.
